A few patrons mention the absence of card payments, as cash is the only accepted mode of payment. While there’s an ATM nearby, this can be a slight inconvenience. Some feedback also indicates that the restaurant can get quite busy during peak dinner hours, leading to longer waits for food. A handful of reviews reflect concern over occasional over-seasoning of the chips, particularly with salt. Though there are mentions of underwhelming experiences, these appear to be in the minority compared to the overwhelming praise the spot receives.
I passed this place on many occasions, but tonight I got to stop and eat. Mums Pakora are superb, and a generous portion of near perfect chips! (To much salt) Definitely recommend and can’t wait to stop there again.
New to the area and craved a proper fish and chips for lunch. I found The Sole Plaice via Google Maps and it had a great rating, so I took the plunge. I spoke to Dave who’s really friendly and welcoming, as well as explained that all the food is cooked fresh to order. The fish was fantastic, really flakey and the batter was nice and light. The chips were proper fish and chip shop chip’s which I was craving! Also spoke to a regular who explained that I can get busy in the evening but you can phone ahead ready for collection. I also tried a piece of fried chicken what was great, it had a nice spice to it and wasn’t greasy like some fried chicken can be. This is a gem and definitely worth a visit!
Great place. Cash is king, so no card payments but cash machine is next door (coop) anyway. There are a few 1 star reviews but they have been extremely harsh.
Just had cod and rock from here with large chips, absolutely stunning. Cooked to order and can't fault it. Huge portions too. Bravo guys
Superb, chips perfect, mums chicken pieces amazing, will defo be back
Fantastic lil chippy. Family that runs the place is always happy and welcoming food is great.
I came across this chip shop as my husband was fishing nearby and so I thought I'd grab us some dinner. Well, it was by far the best fish & chips we've ever had! My husband had the large cod and it was huge. I had sausage in batter and both were cooked perfectly and the chips were out of this world! The staff were also really chatty and friendly and knew all their regulars by first name. I live about an hour's round trip drive away, but even so, this is going to be our new chippy from now on. I'll happily drive down here just for their fish & chips - absolutely outstanding
